Hospital, Care Home & Hospice Visiting

Hospital visiting is one of the ways our trained volunteers support people across Surrey, alongside care home and hospice support. We visit people who are feeling lonely, without close friends or family nearby, or whose relatives are busy at work during the week.

When a current client moves into a care home or is admitted to a hospital or hospice, their volunteer can continue visiting to support them as they settle in — helping make the transition a little easier.

Support in a Care Home

No one should feel alone in a hospital, care home, or hospice. Our trained volunteers offer regular visits and companionship to residents who don’t have close friends or family nearby, spending time chatting, listening, or simply sitting alongside them.

Visits are arranged around what each person needs, whether that’s a weekly chat, help settling into a new care home, or quiet company during a hospital stay. We welcome referrals directly from care homes, hospitals, and hospices, as well as from family members and social workers who know someone who could benefit from a visit.

Support in a Hospital or Hospice

When our clients are in a hospital or hospice, or attending a hospital appointment, our volunteers stay by their side. We offer bedside support so carers can take a break, get a meal, or go home briefly, knowing their loved one has someone close by.

Our volunteers are trained to offer calm, reassuring company during what can be an anxious or unfamiliar time, whether that means a friendly conversation or simply sitting quietly together. Referrals can come from hospital staff, hospice teams, or family members, and we work closely with ward and hospice staff to make sure visits fit around care and treatment schedules.
